Waukegan, IL – Today, Democratic candidate for Lake County State’s Attorney, Eric Rinehart, stood with Reverend Jesse Jackson, Bishop Tavis Grant, and other leaders calling on all details in connection with the Tafara Williams and Marcellis Stinnette shootings to be released.
Rinehart stated:
“I was proud to stand with Jesse Jackson, Bishop Tavis Grant, and other leaders as they called for “the whole truth” to be released in connection with the Tafara Williams and Marcellis Stinnette shootings. Since last Thursday, I have listened to the pain of these families, and it has never been more evident to me that we must reform our justice system NOW in order to help prevent tragedies that may happen in the future.
“I join Reverend Jackson in calling for Attorney General Kwame Raoul to investigate this incident so that we can be certain there will be an independent review of the facts.
“Reverend Jackson and his colleagues know that the current State’s Attorney’s Office has made too many mistakes to be trusted with this investigation — that for too long, they have fostered a culture that did not hold police or prosecutors accountable.
“We must strive every day to make sure that this terrible tragedy is never repeated. My deep condolences and prayers remain with the Stinnette and Johnson families as well as our community as a whole.”
