(Waukegan, IL) – Lake County State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart issued the following statement today on the two-year anniversary of the Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe v. Wade.
“Let me be clear: I support everyone’s right to accessible healthcare and family planning, including abortions. But our basic privacy rights are under attack, and the last eight years have taught us that extremists will stop at nothing.
“Today marks the second anniversary of the Dobbs decision – the devastating ruling that overturned both Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey.
“This stunning reversal of 50 years of constitutional precedent was an attack on privacy rights and reproductive choice. Nationally, extremists are attacking women, their healthcare providers, and even IVF options. By criminalizing or restricting access to abortion, Republican state legislatures are creating a human rights and public health crisis – across the country.
“We are working hard to ensure that Illinois is a safe haven. And because of Dobbs, local prosecutors now play a key role in the battle to protect access to abortion and healthcare.
“As long as I am State’s Attorney, Lake County will not go back. I will never assist anti-choice authorities from anti-choice states in their attacks on women or their medical providers.”
